Tom Dunne leaving TodayFM
Probably one of Ireland’s most influential, knowledgable and nicest DJ’s, Tom Dunne, is set to leave his Pet Sounds slot on Today FM to take up a morning slot (head to head with Ray D’Arcy) on Newstalk 106.
Its such a shame to see Dunne leave his Pet Sounds show. He has taken up the Dave Fanning mantle and championed new Irish music as well as bringing more obscure sounds to the masses.
What is somewhat interesting is that this week Newstalk moved into the Today FM building, they are sister stations. Should we expect to see some more moves?
Here’s a classic clip of Tom Dunne performing in his band Something Happens
DMB Sax player LeRoi Moore dies
LeRoi Moore, the versatile saxophonist whose signature staccato fused jazz and funk overtones onto the eclectic sound of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday of complications from injuries he suffered in an all-terrain vehicle accident, the band said. He was 46. Moore died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was admitted with complications that arose weeks after the June 30 wreck, according to a statement on the band’s Web site. It did not specify what led to his death, and nursing supervisor Galina Shinder said the hospital could not release details.
On June 30, Moore crashed his ATV on his farm outside Charlottesville, Va., but was discharged and returned to his Los Angeles home to begin physical therapy. Complications forced him back to the hospital on July 17, the band said.
The band went on with its show Tuesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where lead singer Dave Matthews dedicated the entire show to Moore.
“It’s always easier to leave than be left,” Matthews told the crowd, according to Ambrosia Healy, the band’s publicist. “We appreciate you all being here.”
Saxophonist Jeff Coffin, who played with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, had been sitting in for Moore during the band’s summer tour.

Ronnie Drew laid to rest
Legendary Irish folk singer Ronnie Drew was laid to rest today in his home village of Greystones today. Aged just 73 Ronnie Drew lost his long battle with illness on Saturday last.
Drew founded the group that would later be known as The Dubliners in 1962 and he also went on to pursue a solo career from 1995. Drew will be best remembered for his gravelly-voiced renditions of rabble-rousing folk songs, like Finnegan’s Wake and Dicey Reilly.
Drew sang one of the band’s biggest commercial hits, when they entered the UK top 10 in 1967 with Seven Drunken Nights.
You would be hard pushed to find a musician in Ireland who wouldnt rank Drew and the Dubliners as an influence. May he Rest in Peace.
Here are some classic pieces of Drew performing;

When will Liam Gallagher Grow up
Well Oasis are obviously starting a tour/releasing an album because we are starting to hear a lot more from them…and its the usual soundbites to get column inches (the irony of posting about it here isnt lost on me). Now I like Oasis, well sort of, I supppose it is more correct to say I am looking forward to hearing their new stuff. But Im bored with their approach to PR.
Liam Gallagher is no out saying Radiohead and Coldplay fans are boring and ugly.
I used to like when he was relevant and came out with funny comments that were tounge in cheek. This is jsut stupid and by opening his mouth he is confirming his stupidity to us all.
Grow up Liam
Who are you listening to at the moment????
My favorite band at the moment is Kings Of Leon, i just cant get enough of them. I am listening to them live at Glastonbury its excellent. They were the highlight of my Oxegen experience this year, they were electric…..the song for me has to be “California Waiting”. I have seen them play twice in Ireland and would definitely advise anyone to go and take a look you will not be disappointed:)
