Muse at Marlay Park

Muse @ Marlay

Muse @ Marlay

Muse played an amazing concert last night at Marlay Park. I got there in time to see the end of Kasabians support set and they were great, a bit Spinal Tap at times..C’mon Marlaaaaaay! But you forget how good Kasabian are, its a shame that they seem to be a bit off the boil, hopefully this will see a return to form, because they sure can perform. Great support choice.

Muse came on about 9.15 pm. It felt like they waited a bit so it would be dark enough to give their amazing stage its full affect.

I first saw Muse 8 years ago in a small venue in Sydney and remember being blown away by them then, and really they were just at the start of their career. Well they have spent the intervening 8 years fine tuning their live act (and is it any wonder they win awards for Best Live Act). Performing live is what all bands say they love doing, well Muse certainly live up to that, it is what they do best.

The set list didnt disappoint, a great mix of tunes, and they never let the crowd slip from their grasp:

1.Map of the Problematique
2.Supermassive Black Hole
3.Dead Star
4.New Born
5.Hysteria
6.Butterflies & Hurricanes
7.Feeling Good
8.Space Dementia
9.Drum and Bass
10.Invincible
11.Bliss
12.Time Is Running Out
13.Riff + Stockholm Syndrome
14.Take a Bow

Encore
15.Starlight
16.Plug In Baby
17.Knights Of Cydonia

My only problem is with MCD. These guys are charging us a small fortune to attend their promoted concerts and the least we can expect is top quality sound. They seem to roll out the same sound system for a gig, whether its indoor or outdoor. A good gust of wind and the sound just deteriorates. Now I wont claim to be a sound engineer but my 2 cents is that MCD need to invest in some better outdoor sound.

But no complaints about the qulaity of Muse…long may they reign.

Were you there? Let me know what you thought………..

Here is some Live Muse Footage (from Lisbon)….just coz they are so great Live you should take a look!

Radiohead Dublin June 6th

Radiohead played two great concerts in Dublin kicking off their European Tour. The Malahide Castle venue is another great find as Dublin’s promoters look at more outdoor venues and venues to replace the Point while it is being re-developed.

I was there on Friday night and while it wasnt totally sold out Radiohead really gave it their all. I won’t lie I am a HUGE Radiohead fan, so Im not exactly the most critical of what they do. I really did feel though that the set list (below) was a perfect mix of new and old.

The only problems with the venue were that it took me over 2 hours to get there, the bar closed so early, and it started so early that it wasnt until near the end of the first set that it got dark enough to appreciate the stage and set Radiohead had put together.

Apart from that it was a fantastic performance, Thom Yorke’s voice just gets better and better and they are such an innovative band, in everything they do (well maybe apart from the merchandise at the event, it was disappointing).

Here is the set list from Friday  (where there were 2 rainbows over the crowd, that must have been cool for the band!)
